Letters & Learning: A Journey into Hebrew Reading

Shir Hadash Reconstructionist Community will offer “Letters & Learning: A Journey into Hebrew Reading,” a unique Hebrew class for both beginners and those looking to refresh their Hebrew reading skills. The class will strengthen Hebrew reading skills while exploring the richness and meaning of the Hebrew alphabet.

Co-taught by Rabbinic Intern Shira Singelenberg and congregant Rick Hendin, the class will meet weekly on Tuesday evenings, April 22-June 3. The first and last sessions on April 22 and June 3 will take place from 6:30-8:00 p.m. at The J’s Arts & Education Building, 2 Millstone Campus Dr. near Creve Coeur. The intervening sessions, April 29-May 27, will convene virtually on Zoom from 7:00-8:30 p.m. The course fee of $36 for Shir Hadash members and $72 for the general public includes all class materials. Register here.

This class has been designed to coincide with the counting of the Omer to offer a meaningful way to incorporate spiritual practice and learning into this sacred period of reflection and growth between Passover and Shavuot. It will be a beginner-friendly, welcoming space for learners of all levels. Students will gain comfort with the Hebrew alphabet and reading; explore the stories and deeper meanings of the letters through Talmud, Midrash and Kabbalah, and will reflect on their personal and spiritual relationship with Hebrew as a sacred language. The registration deadline is Tuesday, April 15.  For more information, contact Rabbinic Intern Shira Singelenberg, Rabbi.Singelenberg@gmail.com.
