Israel: The Dream, The Reality, The Possibilities

The Past, Present and Future of the Israeli State and Society

The Declaration of Independence of the State of Israel was proclaimed on May 14, 1948 by David Ben-Gurion. Using it as a guide, we will explore the hopes, successes, and challenges facing Israel to implement the document, which states: “The State of Israel will foster the development of the country for the benefit of all its inhabitants; it will be based on freedom, justice and peace… it will ensure complete equality of social and political rights to all its inhabitants irrespective of religion, race or sex.”

Dr. Ayala Hendin, Israel Fellow at Washington University, and special guest Dr. Mona Khoury, the first Arab Vice President of Diversity and Strategy at Hebrew University, will teach this three-part series.
